Speaker: Dr Wilma Gallet
$75 for 3-course meal and drinks
The Faith and Work Award is designed to honour Christians who over a lifetime have integrated their faith and work. This tradition has been revived by Ethos: EA Centre for Christianity & Society and Ridley Marketplace Institute to highlight the importance of faith and work integration or the Sunday-Monday connection.
The 2016 Award recipient is Dr Wilma Gallet, who has spent her working life seeking to build a cohesive, inclusive society where the inherent worth of each individual is recognised and valued. Wilma will speak at the dinner on “‘We don’t do God!’ Keeping Christian organisations Christian”. PLUS Ethos director Gordon Preece on “Christian character at work”.
Among her work, she established The Salvation Army Employment Plus in 1998, the largest community provider of employment services under the Government’s Job Network umbrella. She has also been a key policy influencer in the area of social reform and employment services, along with co-ordinating the 2007 Stop The Traffik campaign. She also played an instrumental role in the roll out of the Safe from the Start project which seeks to support children exposed to trauma, neglect and family violence.
Earlier recipients of the Faith and Work Award were Graeme Clark, inventor of the bionic ear, John Anderson, former Deputy PM, Wendy Simpson OAM, entrepreneur and women’s leadership mentor and last year’s recipient Barney Zwartz, former Age Religion Editor, Mark Scott, former ABC Managing Director.
