This foundational workshop is for first-time participants at the Preachers’ Conference, or preachers with limited experience (5-10 sermons). The workshop provides training in the fundamentals of preparing and delivering a biblical exposition for those who are new to expository preaching. If you have been preaching for less than 2 years and have not previously participated in a new preachers’ workshop, please enrol in this workshop. Rod is the Senior Minister of St Stephens Greythorn and a member of the Preachers’ Conference Committee.
Ray Galea or Mike Bird
This masterclass workshop provides an opportunity for those who have been regularly preaching for at least 10 years. In the master class, you will meet in a small group of 10 with Ray or Mike and present a sermon in outline to the group for improvement and mutual learning. Spaces limited.
Connecting Head and Heart – working at practical application in preaching
Application has been called the ‘weakest link’ in most sermons. It is hard work and is often left to the end of the preparation process, or left out altogether. This workshop begins with the premise that good application is vital for faithful preaching. This workshop will explore some key texts and discover together how to develop application from them. Sandy is a pastor at Plentylife church in Mill Park.
Bringing the Bible to Life – the power of story for preachers
Story telling is a key medium for cultural engagement. This workshop will explore how to develop and use narrative to make sermons more engaging and to ensure Gods message to us is still heard today. Richard is Dean of the Anglican Institue at Ridley College and Chair of the Preachers’ Conference Committee.

Master of Arts at the Preachers’ Conference
Ridley College offers a Master of Arts (Theology or Ministry) through our MA Gold Class program. The theology and ministry streams are held in the Yarra Valley each June and feature leading international and local scholars. The preaching stream is incorporated into the Annual Preachers’ Conference in partnership with the Centre of Biblical Preaching. As well as the conference itself, Mike Raiter will provide material in additional workshops prior to, and during the conference.
