Time Out to Write
This two-day event at Ridley College is for women interested in taking time out with like-minded women, to work on a theology-related writing project. Each day will begin with a short reflection to inspire our writing. Optional workshops (e.g. how to publish, using writing software (Scrivener) and writing persuasively) will be offered after lunch, but most of our time will be spent in quiet ‘sit down and write’ sessions.
There will, of course, be plenty of good food, tea and coffee and some essential ‘writing snacks’.
You are most welcome to register for two days or just one.

Friday Workshops
- Possibilities, Pitfalls, and Processes: Publishing articles, chapters, books, or book reviews.
Jill Firth
In this workshop we will look at how to prepare your work for publication and what to expect in the publication process. Sharing of experiences welcome. - How (not) to Write Persuasively.
Denise Cooper Clarke
Using Aristotle’s framework of the three modes of persuasion (logos, ethos and pathos), we will critically examine the techniques used in several examples of persuasive text in order to better understand how to employ (or avoid) such techniques on our own writing.
Saturday Workshops
- Using Scrivener as a Writing Tool.
Bec Muir
Scrivener is software designed for writers. This workshop will introduce the basic functions of the software, as well as ideas for using it for theological writing. Participants will have an opportunity to try out Scrivener for themselves. - Finding Women’s Stories in Scripture.
Alison Flynn
Finding our own stories in Scripture: fostering reflection, imagination, and creativity to draw nearer in faith.
