Preaching from the Song of Songs

You are invited to attend the next Ridley Preachers’ Conference on June 24 – 25, 2025!

We are delighted to have The Revd Ian Powell and Dr Kamina Wust to present on the book of Song of Songs in sermons and lectures.

There will also be a range of seminars to choose from, tackling topics such as Preaching about Gender among Young People, Preaching on Divorce, and Preaching on Men’s and Women’s Roles in a Mixed Congregation. There will be a livestream option as well.

Ridley Preachers’ Conferences aim to encourage us in our leadership and ministry by focussing on skills for preaching. This is an opportunity for pastors, campus workers, clergy, and missionaries to be refreshed as they learn and nurture relationships with other Gospel workers from around Melbourne and Australia. Bring your ministry team for professional development, and pass on the invitation!

Main Speakers

Revd Ian Powell

I love coming to Melbourne, which I like to call, “the Paris of the South”. For about 48 years, I have been working on honestly hearing God’s voice through His Word and then helping my hearers meet with the Christ through His word proclaimed. I have served as a youth minister, assistant minister, evangelist with John Chapman and City Bible Forum, school Chaplain, and rector at St Barnabas Broadway, and then down in Canberra. I still have so much to learn.

My wife, Wonder Woman, as I call her (or Alison) works as a midwife, and one of my daughters is lucky enough to live in Victoria.

Dr Kamina Wüst

Kamina is an Old Testament scholar and teacher with a special interest in the Song of Songs and ‘Solomonic’ literature. After writing a college essay on the topic ‘What is the Song of Songs about?’ she couldn’t stop thinking about it, so she completed a PhD (at Moore College). An accessible version of her findings has been published as a Matthias Bible Guide (for which she is also the OT series editor) and as a set of Bible studies, both available through Matthias Media.

Outside of academia she works as a writer and as a business mentor to freelancers in the creative industries. She is married to another writer and they live in Brisbane with their little boy. She can be contacted through www.kaminawust.com
