Training: Graham Stanton | Preaching to Teenagers
Step 1: Don’t be afraid. Teenagers can smell your fear, and they’re more scared of you than you are of them! The seminar will work on steps 2 and beyond: what are some key features of adolescent culture and development that are worth keeping in mind as you craft messages specifically for teenagers?
Graham is the director of the Ridley Centre for Children’s and Youth Ministry, which means he’s done a lot of thinking about adolescent culture and development. He is also a volunteer youth leader at St. Jude’s Anglican in Parkville, where he talks with actual teenagers most Sundays to help them hear God speaking to them through the scriptures.
Preacher: Helen Bell
Helen is as Melbourne as they come: AFL, coffee, dressing in layers. Helen is an experienced AFES staff worker in the universities of La Trobe and now Melbourne. She’s there because students ask questions about identity and purpose, relationships and values. So it’s an ideal time to talk with them about the God who knows and loves them.
Training will be delivered by Graham Stanton where he will uncover the topic: Preaching to Teenagers. You’ll also have the chance to hear from Helen Bell, an experienced AFES staff worker in the universities of La Trobe and now Melbourne.
