Three Bishops

Condie-Billings-BarkerBetter than three musketeers, Ridley is delighted to congratulate three new bishops on their appointments. Dr Richard Condie, recently ordained as twelfth Bishop of Tasmania, is to be joined by Dr Brad Billings and Dr Paul Barker, who will take up episcopal responsibilities in the Diocese of Melbourne later in the year. We are especially encouraged as each of these three men studied at Ridley for their undergraduate degree, and have gone on to exercise significant pastoral ministry alongside their doctoral research.

Dr Condie has most recently served as Vicar of Carlton and Archdeacon of Melbourne, and was for many years a lecturer in NT and a member of the College Board. Dr Barker was Vicar of Doncaster and Archdeacon of Kew, before taking up a position as OT lecturer and preaching coach throughout Asia. He also served on the Ridley Faculty and Board. Dr Billings has served as Archdeacon of Essendon and Vicar of Toorak, before taking up the role of Director of Theological Education for the Diocese. His thesis, supervised by Dr Doug McComiskey was entitled “Do this in Remembrance of Me: The Disputed Words in the Lukan Institution Narrative (Luke 22: 19b-20). An Historico-Exegetical, Theological and Sociological Analysis.” All three have distinguished academic credentials, and are excellent examples of the ministry formation which service in this diocese provides.

Ridley rejoices in its responsibility to train future leaders for a ministry of Word and Sacrament, and continues to pray for the growth and health of the Australian Anglican Church.
