At the second session of the 51st Synod of the Diocese of Melbourne, Ridley faculty member Revd Richard Trist, was elected as Canon of St Paul’s Cathedral Melbourne. He will join the Cathedral Chapter later this year, and be installed as Canon in St Paul’s Cathedral in due course.

“I am very pleased to be called to serve in this new capacity” says Richard. “I am excited by the vision of the Dean and Chapter for the Cathedral as a beacon for the gospel in the city of Melbourne”. Richard is already an Associate Priest of the Cathedral and will be occupying the Chapter Stall of St Jerome, one of the first translators of Scripture, vacated by the Revd Dr Stephen Ames, also Associate Priest of St Paul’s.

At the same time, the Revd Professor Dorothy Lee, Dean of Trinity College Theological School, was also elected as Canon.

Congratulating the two newly-elected members of Cathedral Chapter, the Dean, the Very Revd Dr Andreas Loewe, said: “I am delighted that two outstanding theological educators will be joining the Chapter of St Paul’s Cathedral. Both have long established relationships with the Cathedral: Richard already serves as a member of our clergy team, with special responsibility for our family-friendly Sunday congregation, and Dorothy is a regular worshipper, and served as this year’s Holy Week Preacher. I look forward to their joining the Governing Body of the Cathedral and to their contributions to our ministry and mission at the heart of the city and Diocese of Melbourne”.

Dean Andreas added: “I thank all those who put themselves for election to Chapter, and thank the clergy and people of our Diocese for their commitment to, and support of their home church, in this and many other practical ways. We fully rely on the service of our volunteers – volunteer guides, Chaplains, shop assistants who exercise an important daily ministry of welcome – and the clergy and laypeople who volunteer their time and gifts in governance, as members of our Chapter. Thank you for all you do”.
