Christian Worship

Overview
This subject provides a comprehensive overview of Christian worship with both theoretical (Biblical and historical) and practical components. The sequence of topics is based on the progression of elements in a weekly church service. This subject is best taken after one full-time year of study, and concurrently with or after the Church History subject “Reformation in Europe and Britain” or the Theology subject “Church, Ministry and Sacraments.”

  • Biblical Perspectives: The theology and practice of worship in the Old and New Testaments
  • Historical Developments: The major, current forms of worship in Australia and their historical roots
  • Contemporary Themes: Reflection on contemporary issues in the theology, practice and leadership of worship
  • The Practice of Worship: Practical skills in planning, preparation and conduct of worship

Study Expectations
In this subject, you can expect to be guided through a variety of weekly learning activities which are designed to develop your understanding of and skills in the topics covered in the syllabus. For online students, these usually include watching videos, reading, completing set learning tasks and contributing to online seminars and interacting with your peers. Students should allow 10 hours of study time per week for this subject.
