Common Core
Everybody who studies for a degree at Ridley will study a common core. These are perspectives which we believe are essential for formation and training in ministry, without which our Ridley trained workers will be unable to be effective in God’s mission in the world.
The Common Core includes:
- Biblical Studies
A grounding in the Biblical Story, Old and New Testaments, and the ability to understand and apply the text of the Scriptures. This will include both the big picture of the Old and New Testaments, and also intensive study of some books of the Bible. - Biblical Theology and hermeneutics
A clear understanding of how the big story of the Bible holds together, how the Bible interprets itself, and how to apply the teaching of the Bible in our contemporary world. - Christian Thought
A study of Christian Theology, Church History and Ethics. This will include the history of Christian ideas within the broader context of the history of civilisations, and the study of contemporary ideas and world-views. - Cross Cultural Training and Entrepreneurial Mission Principles
Cross cultural skills to work with varied people within Australia and overseas, including ethnic groups, working class and welfare class, trade, professional, educated, and artistic groups, and rural and outback Australians.
The communities of learning and formation radiate out from this common core.
A word from our students
Helen Dwyer
It’s a great community. It’s a social community. It’s also a very supportive academic community.
