Ridley Stencil by Jane Ellison, Posted in: College Life

An artwork was recently installed at Ridley Melbourne as part of the college's centenary celebrations, and, in honour of Nicholas Ridley, after whom the college is named. The artwork is of Ridley himself, along with the words he spoke at his martyrdom in Oxford, England on 16th October 1555: “So long as breath is in my body I will never deny my Lord Christ”. It came about after suggestions that this temporary wall, which is currently dividing the current site and the old college site, could be used as a canvas for Ridley-related art.

Awards by Tamie Davis, Posted in: College Life

Today was Ridley's Graduation Ceremony. It was a wonderful chance to celebrate with those who have completed their studies at Ridley and to send them off to their new horizons. Congratulations to those who graduated! Another aspect of the ceremony is that it's an awards service. As near as I could work out two types of awards were given: those for service and character and those for academic achievement. I was a recipient of the latter and I found it to be quite a perplexing experience.

I generally try to use my essays as a chance to address an issue I have and I have plenty of 'I wonders' about the doctrine of scripture! Much of that has come from Barth's teaching being used against me so I thought this would be a good chance to sort out what I think about that. As you begin the year at Ridley, I wonder what you're expecting?  What are you hoping to get out of your time here?

Whatever your background and direction, there are a few ideas that can set us on the right track.  Here are some thoughts on how to make your theological education count, which I've summarised from Andrew Reid.

RYTE- A taste of Ridley for Youth Leaders by Jane Ellison, Posted in: Events

On Saturday 13 of February, Ridley Melbourne ran its first Youth Training Event, which has been coined RYTE (Ridley Youth Training Event). The event was designed to make people think about how they can be a better youth leader through training and encouragement and to introduce youth leaders to Ridley. It is unusual to see so many young faces bright eyed for a 9am registration on a Saturday, but all of the 120 attendees, from 24 churches across denominations from all over Melbourne were ready in anticipation of being equipped for the year in youth ministry ahead of them.

The day…
